Great Glow Run – March

Several members of the Resort Management Group team were fortunate enough to participate in the Great Glow Run in downtown New Bern on the evening of March 29th, 2014. We are more fortunate to know Wesley Roebuck, a 6 year old with Cerebral Palsy who was the featured participant for the Glow Run. Proceeds from this illuminated 5K race go to the Easter Seals UCP, which has touched the lives of over 20,000 adults and children with disabilities every year. Wesley is the cousin of Maria McMahon, who is employed with Resort Management Group. Maria and her fiancé, Tom, who is also employed with Resort Management Group are currently taking care of Wesley while his father is deployed with the United States Marine Corps. When his father, Robert, left for his deployment in November, Wesley was still dependent on his walker for mobility. In the Great Glow Run, Wesley walked over a mile with no assistance! This amazing boy is so inspiring, and will quickly tell you, “Don’t doubt me!” His can-do attitude has taken him to the soccer field, where he currently plays in a league. Next year we hope you will all consider joining us in this 5K race to help others become positive role models, like our Wesley!

Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation for Childhood Cancer – June

Volunteer Community Outreach

On June 8, Resort Management Group (The ‍Resort at Fairfield Harbour) hosted a lemonade stand to raise funds for childhood cancer research. Founded by Alex Scott (1996-2004) in 2004, Lemonade Days is a three-day national event that grew out of Alex’s front yard lemonade stand and is held every year over the same June weekend. During Lemonade Days, volunteers host thousands of Alex’s Lemonade Stands across the country, raising over $1 million in one weekend. June 2013 marked the 10th Annual Lemonade Days.

Resort Management Group’s dedicated employees sold ice-cold lemonade, baked goods for three hours and thanked the Fairfield Harbour timeshare owners and residents for donating $357 to this great cause. Aaron Maune and Sarah Herrmann, Resort Management Group founders, have agreed to increase the donation by $251 to meet the original goal of $608. We are already planning ahead for our second annual Lemonade Days.

Resort Management Group aids Women’s Shelter – June

Volunteer Community Outreach

Resort Management Group (RMG) participated in the Coastal Women’s Shelter’s Annual 5K “Run for Shelter” on June 22 at Creekside Park. Although it was a bit rainy, the RMG associates took to the trail to provide directions and pass out water along the route, which went into Taberna and then circled back to Creekside Park. Over $5,300 was raised to support CWS and domestic violence survivors in Craven, Pamlico and Jones Counties. This worthy organization is always thankful for volunteers as well as donations. Their Helping Hands Boutique in James City is in need of volunteers as well as donations. You can even collect your unused trial-sized shampoos, soaps, conditioners, etc, from your last hotel stay and drop those off to greatly help suddenly displaced families.

Sandy Hook Random Acts of Kindness – January

Volunteer Community Outreach

26 Acts of Kindness for the Sandy Hook Elementary. We are doing a random act of kindness in memory of each of the 26 people who died in the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting.

If you would like to participate, simply do something kind for either someone you know or don’t know.It can be anything from assisting someone in need to buying someone’s meal at the drive-thru. Money does not have to be involved. This is happening all over the world, so if you need ideas, you can search 26 random acts of kindness and find some.

If you participate, simply write what you did next to someone’s name on the board. The adults who died are listed on the school, and the children surround the school. Unless you would like to be recognized, this remains anonymous.

To pay it forward, if possible, let the person know by note or by telling them, that they are a recipient of a random act of kindness, and to please pay it forward.
